The Office of Admission strives to admit students who show academic promise as well as those who are likely to pursue their education to make valuable contributions to their profession and society as a whole. We seek to assemble a class with a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences, and talents. Diversity within the student body continues to be central to the goals of the Office of Undergraduate Admission and the University of Virginia.
The University of Virginia has committed its resources, both human and financial, to diversifying UVA's student body. In November 1999, the Outreach Office was established in the Office of Admission. The mission of the Outreach Office is (1) To welcome students from underrepresented and underserved groups to the University of Virginia, (2) To help students compete successfully in the admission process at UVA, and (3) To give students general advice about finding a college that will help them reach their potential and achieve their dreams.
